Celebrating the pipe organ, the King of Instruments

Mailbag: “Spread the word…”

June 15, 2014

Michael,

Was looking at your broadcast lists and could not find any listings for Southern Ca. We have a nice number of fine tracker action organs and others that are major instruments. Having played on a number of these organs just wondering why we don't have access to a program such as yours.
We are eagerly awaiting the July 4th independence day concert. i was fortunate to do my senior recital at the National Cathedral a couple of years ago and find it fascinating to watch someone play it now. Hope all its upgrades have been done. We are not far from Redlands University where Dr. Frederick Swan is the organ department director.
Thanks for your informative programs.

Lurl,

The decision to broadcast Pipedreams rests entirely with the local station.  The show formerly aired on KUSC years ago, but even though it had a good audience AND I was a consultant to the Disney Hall organ project, they cancelled and resist a return.  San Diego has never aired the program, despite the popularity of the Spreckles Organ.  You should contact your local classical station and ask the question.   At least you have the Internet...spread the word.
