Mailbag: “Biggs Radio Show”

Dear Michael,

Do you know if there any recordings of the radio programs of E Power Biggs from the Germanic Museum at Harvard? I know there are recordings of him playing the instrument (including some featured on your show), but would love to dig up a live radio program.

Sorry to inform you but, to my knowledge, there are no available recordings of the Biggs CBS broadcasts...though I expect you could hear one if you visited the Boston Organ Library (at Boston University), where all of the Biggs memorabilia is archived.
It would be fascinating to hear one of those old programs from the 1940s, but with the copyright situation being what it is in the USA, I expect that such materials will be out-of-reach for some time.
