Mailbag: “Insatiable Appetite”

Dear Michael,

I have been a long time fan of pipe dreams, However recently, I have discovered that I enjoy pipe organ music even more then I used to (perhaps it is one of those things that one appreciates more with age) what was once a minor interest has turned into a full blown passion. As wonderful as your program is, it just isn't enough anymore as I need a organ "fix"more and more often. So I was wondering if you could let me know what you think are the best pieces of pipe organ music. I know that is subject to personal taste, but I was hoping you could give me a list of what you think are the "must haves" for a fan of pipe organ music.

I'm delighted that you have developed an insatiable hunger for organ music.
To a degree, you are correct…it is a matter of personal taste…but my attitude always has been to taste everything at least a few times before making up your mind. And, for a person in your position, that means simply listening to a lot of different things.

I can give you a list…and it would include everything that has been broadcast on PIPEDREAMS since 1982…and since much of that is available online for listening, I think your work has been cut out for you. :-)
