Celebrating the pipe organ, the King of Instruments |
August 30, 2009
Dear Michael,
During Program 0934 Pipes at the Proms (II) devoted to the Royal Albert Hall organ, you refer several times to the “Ally Pally” aka Alexandra Palace. I don’t get the connection. Yes, Willis organs; one modified and subsequently restored and the other not so much. Could you please clarify the Royal Albert Hall/Ally Pally connection?
Michael
Michael,
Yes, I know, and a stupid slip of the tongue, as I have known of the Alexandra Palace and its Willis organ since around 1970 when EMI produced an LP album containing recordings from the Alexandra Palace in the 1920s and 1930s by Dupre, Cunningham, Thalban-Ball, etc...
My goof.
