Celebrating the pipe organ, the King of Instruments |
January 5, 2009
Dear Michael,
Since you are going to expand your program to 2 hours, how about expanding it with other pipes? How about bagpipes, pan pipes, pipes of other kinds from other countries like Nepal, Australia, Iceland, Senegal, South Africa, Morocco, the Figi Islands, the Amazon River Basin, etc. There are all sorts of pipes from all different parts of the world out there just waiting for someone like you to let them play for American ears. I like pipes, I like Pipedreams. I would like more pipes of an expandied variety, wouldn't you?
Leah
Leah,
Thanks for the suggestion. I have, on past occasions, included some bagpipe-and-organ performances (fun!), also pan-pipe and organ, but that it likely to be the extent of the expansion of my embrace of other instruments.
Though if any of these other pipes finds itself in the company of a pipe organ, I hope someone will let me know. I keep wishing for someone to create a piece for American Indian Flute and organ. But, as you might guess, there's enough repertoire for just the pipe organ to keep us all engaged through several lifetimes.
