Mailbag: “Kimballs, Skinners and Mr. Jones”

December 28, 2008

Dear Michael,

First, I hope you had a merry Christmas. Mine was wonderful. When my ten year old niece threw her arms around me, and told me she loved me, that was the only Christmas present I needed.
I have heard both positive, and negative comments about Cameron Carpenter. My feelings are like this. Everyone has an opinion, and things they like. As for me, I can’t get enough of the sounds of romantic organs like Kimballs, and e. m. Skinner. They make my liver shiver.
I remember going to an organ concert with my mom, and we heard Litanies. My mom was about to comment that she thought it was a bunch of noise. When she looked over at me, and saw tears streaming down my face, she refrained. “That peace spoke to me, Mom” I remember telling her. To me, life is too damn short to argue about what people like, or dislike. Let us please, listen to Aretha Franklin, and give us all a little RESPECT! By the way, just to show that I have wide ranging tastes, I am a huge George Jones fan! I mean, when you stand 6-3, and weigh 400 pounds, it does make ya a big fan! anyway, I enjoy your program very much.

Wally,

You’re right about opinions...everyone has them (though sometimes they should keep them to themselves). :-)
Your niece’s Christmas present for you sounds absolutely perfect. We need more of that spread around.
I must confess that I need to ‘Google’ George Jones…had no idea who he was.
Thanks for your open-minded appreciation. Here’s to more of that in 2009!
Cheers,

jmb
