Mailbag: “Negativism for Ned?”

Dear Michael,

Your program of Ned Rorem - a more boring set of music I have never heard. More programs like this and you will lose me. I am sure there are many who will appreciate this kind of music. I can only hope this was a one time program.

Everyone’s entitled to an opinion, so thank you for yours. Rorem’s music may not be to everyone’s liking, but it is not worthless (or boring, if you know how to listen to that sort of thing). In any event, unless you are a first-timer to PIPEDREAMS, you should know that the program content covers a lot of territory…something for everyone, eventually. There are people, who complain when I play theater organ music, too, or transcriptions, or Cameron Carpenter.
