Mailbag: “More of the Young Genius”

Dear Michael,

Thank you, Mr Barone, for your fantastic response to Barrett’s write-in. I only hope you’ll play more of the young genius, Cameron Carpenter, whose playing is to this listener the most exciting in history. I wonder what the writer of that scathing email heard that led him to believe Carpenter’s work is destructive. Anyone could grasp that he’s probably quite threatening to most organists, but to make such a specific claim is indefensible. One need only turn to YouTube to see the effect he has on an audience, not to mention his abilities. Where’s the problem?
