Dear Michael,
Are you and Michael Barone of USNews related?
No, though we have met on several occasions. He’s a Republican; I’m not. My father (the authentic Michael Barone in our family…I’m really a John Michael Barone) made the contact probably 20 years back when he (my father, in retirement in southern Arizona) was fielding comments from friends who would say “I heard your son on the radio last night”. My father wrote to the Michael Barone of USNews and they shared family backgrounds. No connection became obvious. That M.B. stayed overnight at our home many years ago when he was travelling in the Midwest, doing a Laura Ingalls Wilder tour with his 12-year-old daughter.
