Mailbag: “Biggs Recordings”

Dear Michael,
E. Power Biggs was largely responsible for my interest in organs, and it was set of recordings on old technology of organs throughout Europe. Has this set been reissued in digital format? I sure hope so. Karl

Unfortunately, the corporate controllers of the Biggs audio archive have not seen any commercial advantage to reissuing much of his analog legacy in CD format (it is astonishing how much is no longer available).
However, you may find a surprising number of the early Biggs albums (mono and stereo) available in unofficial CD transfers from Haydn House. (check in the “Organ Loft” section) Some of these transfers are quite successful, others have been disappointing.
