Celebrating the pipe organ, the King of Instruments |
April 7, 2006
Dear Michael,
Re Rochester NY organs and organists—Will you be doing any recording of the newly installed 17th Century Italian organ at the Memorial Art Gallery in the near future? Would you ever consider featuring David Craighead’s recordings some time in the future? He is a dear friend and was the organist at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church on East Avenue for 50 years as well as head of the organ department at the Eastman School of Music which I am sure you are well aware of. He is 82 now and EROI (Eastman Rochester Organ Initiative) will be naming/dedicating a new organ at Christ Episcopal Church on East Avenue in a couple of years.

Dear Nancy,
Though I have yet to visit Rochester to hear their new/old Italian instrument, I do have a CD (from Loft Records) made on that organ, and look forward to using it in the future.
As for David Craighead, who will be honored by the American Guild of Organists at a gala recital and reception in Philadelphia on May 22…
…and we will rebroadcast a program (A Gentle Giant …#0620, the week of May 15) devoted to Professor Craighead, his performances, and his comments (produced in 1997). Look forward to that.
