Mailbag: “Liviabella’s Pastorale?”

December 11, 2006

Dear Mr. Barone,

My name is Rune Molvik, and I’m organist in Norway. I finished my organ studies at the conservatorium (The Grieg academy) in Bergen in 1993. After listening to Lino Liviabella’s Pastorale at Pipedreams In Pastures Green July 24, I wonder if you know the publisher of this beautiful Pastorale of Liviabella?
I enjoy Pipedreams very much, and look forward to the future programs.

Cantor in Jølster, Western Norway

Dear Rune,

From what I can tell from information on the CD of the Liviabella piece (on Tactus TC900001):
This joyous Pastorale, written in 1948 and dedicated to ‘a dear friend and esteemed oboeist Martino Loré’, originally was conceived for oboe and piano, part of a triptych (Largo, Pastorale, Scherzo) published in Padua by Zanibon in 1973.
It is possible that the organ version was simply an adaptation by the performers.
Good luck in your search.
